- Jade can refer to either of two different silicate minerals: nephrite, or jadeite. Both are very commonly dyed, but come in a variety of natural colors! Nephrite comes in a creamy white and light green, and has been historically prized in Chinese culture. Nephrite jade also is very tough, the toughest known natural mineral, three times tougher than ceramics and even tougher than steel. Jadeite comes in a variety of colors including blue, red, black, lavender, white, and dark green- and is important to the Maori people of New Zealand. Some of the world’s most famous and rare Jade is from Myanmar and is still called Burmese Jade. It is popular world-wide and is an ancient stone with a long and complex history!
- Peruvian Turquoise is the name given in South America for a type of Chrysocolla with rich and beautiful blue-green color similar to Turquoise in appearance. It is formed in the oxidation zones of copper rich ore bodies, and was prized by the ancient Incans.
